Washington is full of lush forests and gorgeous scenery. As I drove from SeaTac up 101 to Hoodsport, Washington I was so excited to be there to capture this wedding day in such a beautiful area. For their destination wedding, Ilana and Joshua picked Skokomish Park in Lake Cushman. As a campground, it was the perfect place to host their friends and family traveling in from across the country.
The Pacific Northwest rainy weather was present on their wedding day. At a house of the canal in Hoodsport, the bride got ready surrounded by her family and closest friends.
We drove up the road from Hoodsport to Lake Cushman for their first look. As we arrived, the rain got heavier and the wedding party met us to walk down to the shoreline. Going with the flow of the day and embracing the weather, the couple had the most perfect rainy first look.
As the clouds hung low around us, we stood out on the shoreline, watching the rain come down. We took their wedding party photos, and then headed over to the meadow where the couple had set up for their ceremony and reception. Ilana and Joshua’s family and friends were so sweet, they mingled in the meadow awaiting the ceremony to begin. The chuppah stood in a forest of tall trees at the end of the aisle. Umbrellas up, and faces lined with smiles – waiting for the couple to make their way in. Their pup dressed in a perfect pink bowtie matched the earthy vibe of the wedding. The ceremony was beautiful.
After the ceremony, the rain started to let up. The couple celebrated and was surrounded in good company as they signed the Ketubah which was designed by a friend. There were so many sentimental details that made this wedding day unique. Friends circled the couple, leaving them with gifts, and chatting about good memories. Joshua had presented a sword to Ilana previously, and the couple cut their cake with it together – the most epic cake cutting I’ve photographed.
Afterwards, we got to head back down to the lake for some of the most scenic wedding portraits with the clouds rising over the mountains and sun beginning to pop out after the full day of rain.
Lake Cushman made the perfect location for Ilana and Joshua’s wedding. If you’re considering getting married in the Pacific Northwest, reach out. I’d love to chat and share my experience with you.
