Spring weddings in Colorado are so great, they make for such beautiful days with warm weather in the city. April is one of my favorite months to recommend for couples who are looking to get married here.
I was really excited when Cindy and Eliseo reached out to me earlier in the year as April really kicks off the wedding season! They had already gotten married at the courthouse last year but were planning a downtown Denver wedding to bring all their friends and family into town and to finally have the opportunity to celebrate with all of them.
The couple planned all the details themselves and were able to create such a memorable wedding day. We started mid-day at The Slate, a perfect hotel for getting ready in the downtown area. This hotel has it all and truly is a photographer’s dream, it offers so many great photo opportunities on property. The couple got ready in separate rooms with their parents helping them, and then we met in the courtyard area for their first look before heading off to the Tivoli.
The Tivoli Student Union sits on the Metropolitan State University campus and the Turnhalle is a gorgeous brick walled ballroom space with a stage and string lights. It was an amazing match for their 100+ person wedding. The couple exchanged vows and then joined their friends and family upstairs for cocktail hour. During cocktail hour we snuck away from some portraits on the campus and took advantage of the courtyard area and the historic Tivoli building in the backdrop.
During the cocktail hour, the ballroom space was converted into the reception area! Starting with some thank you speeches, the couple and their parents kicked off their reception. The couple went from table to table exchanging greetings and grabbing a photo with each table followed by a taco dinner. The clouds rolled in and brought some cooler afternoon winds so we didn’t get the bright golden hour sun – but we did get some incredible portraits with the city backdrop!
The couple incorporated some traditions into their reception including a Dollar Dance, where guests clip a dollar to the bride or groom to dance with them and Serpent of the Sea Dance where guests form a line (like a snake) and weave around the couple as they stand on chairs on the dance floor.
Once the music got started – it was a total party. I love being able to get creative with dance floor images and got tons of variety with all the dancing, shots, and fun moments. The bride swapped into a super cute reception dress with a pair of pearl heels for the remainder of the night.
