When this couple decided on their wedding plans, they felt the desire to elope while also planning a celebration with their closest friends and family. This led to a weekday elopement in the Colorado mountains outside of Buena Vista, followed by a reception in downtown Denver.
Buena Vista & Independence Pass Elopement
A weekday elopement is the perfect way to get privacy in a scenic spot. The couple stayed at the Shorehouse hotel in town, which made for a central stay within walking distance of dinner and drinks. On the day of their elopement, we had planned to a drive to a remote alpine lake but due to thunderstorms and rainy weather, pivoted to Independence Pass instead. The change in plans worked out great, and the couple got to enjoy a laid back afternoon with eachother. They exchanged their vows as the clouds rolled in over the mountain and the sun came back out. Following that they picnicked on the river and shared a lemon bar to celebrate. Driving down the pass, the couple brought a camcorder and filmed little moments from their day together. We made stops at a few areas for portraits and then headed back to Buena Vista.

Downtown Denver Reception
Following their elopement, the couple stayed in the mountains for a few days enjoying their time together, while their family made their way into town for their reception. They hosted family and friends from all over the country in downtown Denver for an intimate afternoon dinner and dance party.
The reception was an intentional celebration planned to gather their favorite people in town with them to celebrate their marriage. It had many untraditional sentiments, that felt unique to them. Since the couple eloped a few days prior, they skipped out on the vow exchange and started at the cocktail hour. They had a temporary tattoo bar, and brought in a late night coffee vendor to pour shots of espresso and make affogatos for their guests.
